Revival

It all began by attending a meeting!

The Alton Athletic Association was on it’s last leg late in 2021 when the Lombardis asked the soccer parents to come out for a meeting. The organization was ready to fold after Covid had shut down the world….many places were still struggling to recover. The Alton Athletics booster had stopped meeting, no events had been planned, and coffers were nearly empty.

First on the agenda was the election of officers. People volunteered. Officers were named.

Next came event planning. The booster club needed funds if it was to lend support to athletic teams in need.

From there, many hours of planning, volunteering, and hoping that people would come.

People came!

Our first event back was a music trivia night. The Lombardis hosted this event with ease as they are music trivia host veterans, spending many years hosting at St. Mary’s in Alton. The Inaugural Alton Athletic Assocation Music Trivia was a great success.

Next up was the revival of a 20+ year running golf tournament that had taken a 2 year hiatus starting with Covid in 2020. The hosts for this tournament were a couple of people who just happened to show up at that meeting, and who knew nothing about golf or golf tournaments! But, they pulled it off with the help of so many others who were willing to share their experience and time.

Then came the Amazing Race. This was a scavenger hunt style race for Alton School District Students which cluminated with a giant inflatable obstacle course. It was a great day of play and laughter.

A fundraiser bowling outing was held at Bowl Haven in Alton, the home alley for our Alton Redbirds bowling team. If you haven’t bowled lately, get out there! It is great fun for young and old. Don’t forget to check the Redbirds bowling schedule. It’s a great spectator sport!

Support was also provided by individual donors and a car wash sponsored by Gorilla Express.

The concession stands were revived by Shelley Cowan. She and her husband Dustin attend more Alton sporting events than any other human in the district!

The booster has also revived Alton Redbird Spirit Wear. Your AAA members and supporters can be found at many events selling from a cool salvaged cart! We also hope to sell from this site in the future!

These generous acts from our members and community have helped the Alton Athletic Assocation get back to supporting our athletes. See Blog Post 2 for ways in which the Assocation is helping Athletes.

And please join us in supporting Alton Athletics!
